The Public Records Division provides many services to the general public, attorneys and other members of the judicial system and fellow law enforcement agencies. As the custodian of public records, they bear the burden of maintaining and providing access to the department’s offense reports and uniform traffic collision reports. In addition, the Public Records Division provides criminal history and background checks for pre-employment purposes. Possibly a much larger responsibility entrusted to this division is the assessment and documentation of the department’s monthly and annual statistics, as required by the federal government.
