The Community Relations Division of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is here for the purpose of ensuring that you, as a resident of Harrison County, have unencumbered access to your Sheriff’s Office. We are charged with the duty of ensuring that our citizens understand and are aware of the many services that the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office makes available to them. We accomplish this with a variety of community outreach programs;

Neighborhood Watch Program – This award winning resource, leads the way by facilitating an open dialog between the Sheriff’s Office and the individual neighborhoods. There are currently about 12 neighborhoods participating in the program. This program provides a means for each member of the community to actively participate in betterment of their neighborhood. The people who know the neighborhood best are the residents. They can identify suspicious activity much quicker than a non-resident. We set up a network for those tips to be channeled straight to our Deputies on patrol. If you or your neighborhood would like to establish a Neighborhood Watch Program, please contact the Sheriff’s Office.

BRAVE- Brave is an acronym for Bullying Resistance and Anti-Violence Education. This program is the Harrison County Sheriff Office’s response to the growing problem of bullying. In this era of mainstream social media, law enforcement has seen a large spike, not just in bullying, but also in the severity of that bullying. Violence in our youth, especially in our schools, is unacceptable, so we began teaching the research based Second Steps Program, from The Committee for Children, and Character Building from Character First Education. We have carefully tailored these programs to make them applicable to our Harrison County students. The program has proven to teach the students how to solve their problems without resorting to violence, as well as teaching them to safely handle bullying when it occurs. These classes are taught in Harrison County Schools during the school year, and in the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Summer BRAVE Camp at West Harrison High School. If you would like information about enrolling students in the summer program or volunteering as a mentor, please contact the Community Relations link below.

Harrison County TRIAD – The Harrison County TRIAD is a program sponsored by grants from the Area Agency On Aging and the Mississippi Leadership Council on Aging. The program is designed to address the safety needs of seniors in Harrison County. This program which has been effective for over 21 years, here on the Coast, has serviced over 3300 seniors. The major projects that the TRIAD offers are distribution of the following items:

  • Files of Life-A magnetic pouch that contains all medical information. This pouch is placed on the refrigerator and is readily available to emergency medical responders.
  • Reflective Address sign—is placed on the mailbox at the end of the driveway to assist in locating the house of need
  • Grab Bars-These are installed in your home as needed.
